When an emission source (heating, cooling, propane, diesel, mobile combustion, refrigerants, etc.) has some but not all actual data, the missing data can be estimated using the actual data available. It’s important to note, that any estimated data should be noted in a concise and understandable format.
If you’re estimating only a few month's worth of data and want to input each month into Carbonhound follow the steps below:
Find the sum of the actual data available for that emission source for the year you’re calculating.
Take the consumption quantity available and divide it by the number of months the data is available to get the average monthly usage.
Example: If you have 6 months of electricity data that equals a total of 18,000 kWh, you would first take this consumption and divide it by 6 to find the average monthly data consumed.
18000/6 = 3,000 kwH
3000 kWh is the usage data that will be used to fill in any missing monthly gaps in Carbonhound.
Be sure to keep track of the estimation methodology including the months of data that actual data was available and how many months the estimations are based on.
